Schools fit for the future – a night schoolED Event

Future-fit schools: An event for education system changemakers
Hotham Room, Mercure North Melbourne (4.30pm – 8.30pm with refreshments)

You are invited to a special schoolED event to celebrate the end of a successful year. The end of the year, as the busyness slows down, is a perfect time to create a pause to reflect on what really matters and how we want to be, so we can enter the new year with clear intention and energy. The focus of this event will focus on creating schools that are fit for the future.

We live in a time of unprecedented change and challenges – climate change, habitat destruction, gender inequality and violence, geopolitical tensions and threat of nuclear war, population growth and vanishing resources, pandemics, the rise of artificial intelligence, declining mental health, and economic and political system collapse.

Resolving these challenges will require new ways of understanding and thinking, and enormous human resilience.

The stakes are highest for the children and young people of today, as they will inherit tomorrow’s problems. It is critical that they have a voice that is heard and included so that they have the power to influence change, and that they have agency, a belief that they can do something to create the future they want.

Are our schools producing hopeful and flexible humans who are able to meet with wisdom the global civilisational challenges that we face?

This is a question that no one school can address on its own – we are part of an ecosystem of learning – but it is one that urgently needs attention and committed action.

Come together with other principals and school leaders who want to transform the system and create future-fit schools – schools that are fit to face the challenges of our time. Together we will create a new narrative of what education is for and what it can be, a story of regeneration and transformation.

This facilitated conversation will explore the questions:

What does a future-fit school look like, what qualities does it have?

How can we develop student voice and agency in relation to the global civilisational challenges we face?

What might we create together that we can’t create on our own?

How might we work together and look after each other in the process?

What micro-steps can we take right now?

The evening timings:
4:30 – 5:30pm – Registration/Afternoon Tea

5:30 – 7.00pm – Future Fit presentations

7:30 – 8:30pm – Drinks and Canapés

We look forward to seeing you.
